Weingut Hirsch is a leading family winery in Kammern, at the heart of Austria’s Kamptal region. Managed by Johannes Hirsch and his family, the estate’s winemaking heritage stretches back five generations. Today, the Hirsch family is celebrated for their commitment to biodynamic viticulture, producing wines that authentically express the unique terroir of Kamptal.
The estate’s vineyards are located on some of the region’s most prestigious sites, including Lamm, Gaisberg, Grub, Renner, and Heiligenstein. These sites feature a mosaic of soils, primary rock, loess, and clay, that give the wines their distinctive minerality and structure. All 100% estate vineyards are cultivated biodynamically, with a strong emphasis on soil health, biodiversity, and gentle vine care. Since 2013, the family has also adopted the Simonit & Sirch pruning method to promote vine longevity.
Weingut Hirsch specializes in Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, varieties that thrive in Kamptal’s climate. In the cellar, the philosophy is minimal intervention: each parcel is vinified separately, and fermentation is spontaneous, allowing the wines to express their origin with purity and clarity. Alcohol levels are kept moderate, resulting in wines that are fresh, vibrant, and food-friendly.
Hirsch’s approach is rooted in tradition but open to innovation, always with respect for nature and sustainability. The result is a range of terroir-driven, energetic wines that have earned recognition both in Austria and internationally, true reflections of Kamptal’s vitality and the Hirsch family’s passion.
