Champagne Rémy Lequeux-Mercier is a family estate located in Passy-sur-Marne, at the heart of the Vallée de la Marne. The domaine is owned and managed entirely by the Lequeux-Mercier family, who have been producing Champagne for several generations while perpetuating the traditions and values of independent vignerons.
The estate spans 7 hectares of vines, spread across 25 parcels in the communes of Passy-sur-Marne, Barzy-sur-Marne, Château-Thierry, and Dormans. The vineyards are planted with the three classic Champagne grape varieties: Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay. This diversity allows the family to craft both blended and single-plot Champagnes, combining the qualities of each variety, vivacity and freshness from Chardonnay, fruitiness from Pinot Meunier, and body and power from Pinot Noir.
80% of the vines are south-facing, situated on hillsides with rich clay-marl soils, ideal for optimal grape ripening. The family’s commitment to sustainable viticulture is reflected in practices such as plowing, natural grassing, and the use of sexual confusion techniques to minimize insecticide use. These methods ensure the health of the vines and the authenticity of the terroir’s expression.
In the cellar, Rémy Lequeux-Mercier applies a philosophy of minimal intervention. Grapes are hand-harvested at optimal maturity and gently pressed to obtain fine, precise juices. Fermentation is carried out for as long as possible to develop complex, subtle aromas. Malolactic fermentation is not systematic, preserving the natural freshness of the wines. Bottling takes place at the estate in April or May, allowing for a natural warming of the wines and extended aging on fine lees.
The Champagnes are aged for a minimum of 4 years in the estate’s underground cellars, with vintages aged for more than 10 years. The dosage at disgorgement varies between 3 and 7 g/l, depending on the cuvée, to respect the tasting potential of each wine.
Champagne Rémy Lequeux-Mercier produces around 25,000 bottles per year, offering a range that includes blends, single-parcel cuvées, and vintage Champagnes. Each bottle is a reflection of the family’s passion, respect for nature, and dedication to the art of Champagne.
