Nittardi is a distinguished family-run organic winery located in the heart of the Chianti Classico region of Tuscany, near Castellina in Chianti, nestled between the provinces of Siena and Florence. The estate enjoys a rich history dating back to the 12th century when it was originally known as “Nectar Dei” (The Nectar of the Gods). The property once belonged to the illustrious Renaissance artist Michelangelo Buonarroti, who famously valued its wine highly and sent it as a gift to Pope Paul III. Today, Nittardi honors this legacy by blending centuries of tradition with a passion for quality and art.

The estate has been under the stewardship of Peter Femfert and his wife Stefania Canali since 1981. They revived the vineyards with great care and modernized the cellar in 1992. Their son, Léon Femfert, has overseen winemaking and business operations since 2013, working alongside consultant winemaker Carlo Ferrini, a noted expert in Italian wines.

Nittardi’s vineyards cover 40 hectares split between Chianti Classico and the Maremma region near the coast. The organic approach focuses on respecting the terroir and biodiversity, with grapes harvested by hand to craft elegant wines. Signature bottles include Casanuova di Nittardi, renowned for expressing Sangiovese’s complexity from the historic Vigna Doghessa, and Ad Astra and Nectar Dei, the acclaimed Super Tuscans from Maremma. In 2012, Nittardi introduced BEN, its first 100% Vermentino white wine.

Art and culture remain central to Nittardi’s identity; each year, internationally acclaimed artists create unique label artwork and packaging, enhancing the connection between wine and creativity. Nittardi’s wines consistently receive top honors, such as Gambero Rosso’s Three Glasses, five stars from Decanter, and high ratings from top critics like James Suckling and The Wine Advocate.

The estate produces around 115,000 bottles annually, combining tradition, organic farming, and artistic expression to create elegant wines that embody the spirit of Tuscany.
