Champagne L&S Cheurlin is a family estate with roots stretching back to 1788, when Joseph Cheurlin, a priest in Landreville, acquired his first vineyard land. For over two centuries, each generation has contributed to the family’s legacy, passing down a deep connection to the land and a passion for winemaking. Among the notable figures are Edmond Cheurlin, a defender of the region’s heritage, and Raymond Cheurlin, who established the family’s own Champagne brand and began selling directly to private customers.
Today, the estate is led by Lucie and Sébastien Cheurlin, who continue the family’s tradition with a profound respect for nature and a commitment to organic viticulture. Their father, Richard, was a pioneer in questioning chemical treatments and converting parts of the vineyard to organic farming. Since 2011, the entire estate has been certified organic by ECOCERT France SAS, and biodynamic practices are also applied to nurture the health and vitality of the vines.
The 5 hectares of vineyards are located in the valleys of the Ource, Seine, and Arce, where Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and a touch of Pinot Blanc thrive. The family’s approach is guided by observation, patience, and a deep understanding of the microcosm surrounding each parcel, studying the soil’s fauna and flora to maintain a natural balance and ensure the health of the vines.
Winemaking at Champagne L&S Cheurlin is marked by minimal intervention and a desire to let the terroir express itself fully. The wines are crafted with care, reflecting the family’s experience, the exceptional terroir of the Côte des Bar, and their love for the vine and wine. The estate welcomes visitors to its cellars for tastings and to share in the family’s story, rooted in tradition, terroir, and a love for the vine.
