Located in the historic village of Chigny les Roses, nestled on the slopes of the Montagne de Reims, Champagne Jean Dumangin is a family estate with roots stretching back centuries. The family’s viticultural heritage can be traced to Firmin Dumangin, a winemaker born in Ludes in 1645, marking the beginning of a lineage now in its 11th generation.
The estate’s modern story began in earnest when Hippolyte Dumangin, in 1895, started bottling and marketing Champagne under the “Hte Dumangin” brand, a pioneering move at a time when most growers sold only grapes. Despite setbacks from the phylloxera crisis and the economic turmoil of the early 20th century, the family persevered, rebuilding the vineyards and adapting to new challenges. The brand evolved over the decades, with Achille Dumangin personalizing the label in 1909 and Maurice Dumangin, along with his three sons Jean, Guy, and Jacky, expanding sales and exports in the post war era.
Today, Champagne Jean Dumangin manages 8.5 hectares of vineyards, including 6 hectares classified as Premier Cru in the heart of the Montagne de Reims. Since 1991, the estate has also cultivated 2.5 hectares of Chardonnay in the chalky terroir of Couvrot (Coteaux Vitryats), giving rise to the distinctive “Brut Blanc de Blancs Terroir” and “Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Terroir” cuvées.
Champagne Jean Dumangin is deeply committed to environmental stewardship. The estate minimizes the use of phytosanitary products, prioritizes mechanical soil work, and is certified Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) since 2016. These sustainable practices help preserve biodiversity and the natural balance of the vineyard ecosystem.
