Champagne Francis Boulard & Fille is a family estate rooted in Faverolles et Coëmy, at the northern edge of the Montagne de Reims. The history of the domaine spans six generations, beginning with Raymond Boulard, who in 1952 decided to vinify and bottle his own Champagne, marking the official start of the house’s production. In 1964, the first vineyards were planted on the siliceous soils of the Saint Thierry massif, with the “Les Murtets” parcel offering a breathtaking view of Cormicy and the “Les Rachais” parcel soon planted with Chardonnay.
In 1973, the Maison Boulard Frères was created by Raymond, Francis, and their sister. Francis Boulard devoted himself to the vineyard, gradually adopting more respectful and environmentally conscious practices. In 1980, the Maison Boulard & Fils was established, introducing organic viticulture and barrel aging, and later drawing inspiration from biodynamic principles. By 2000, organic farming was fully embraced, and biodynamic methods were integrated to nurture the land and give the wines a refined, terroir driven style.
In 2009, Delphine Boulard, daughter of Francis, joined the family business and became an essential part of the new entity, Champagne Francis Boulard & Fille. Today, Delphine is supported by her son Quentin and her husband Mathieu, ensuring the continuity of the family’s commitment to organic and biodynamic excellence.
The estate’s vineyards are located on the Saint Thierry massif and in the Marne Valley, with clay and limestone soils. The average age of the plots is 35 years, and the vineyards are certified organic by Ecocert and biodynamic by Biodyvin. The approach is holistic, with lunar calendar guided biodynamic preparations and minimal intervention in the cellar.
Vinification is carried out with utmost respect for nature: grapes are hand harvested, gently pressed, and fermented with indigenous yeasts in small old oak barrels, demi muids, or foudres. Batonnage is practiced according to the lunar calendar, and malolactic fermentation is often allowed to occur naturally. The wines are aged on fine lees, with no fining or filtration, and are bottled and disgorged at the estate. Most cuvées are Brut Nature, with zero dosage, to best express the purity and minerality of the terroir.
Champagne Francis Boulard & Fille is also renowned for its hospitality, offering charming guest rooms and a table d’hôtes experience at Domaine Flancourt, just steps from the cellar. Visits and tastings are available by appointment, providing guests with an authentic immersion in the world of organic and biodynamic Champagne.
