Champagne Fabrice Bertemès is a family estate rooted in the heart of the Montagne de Reims, in the Premier Cru village of Trépail. For four generations, the family has cultivated its vineyards with a deep respect for nature and traditions, perpetuating a savoir faire that is both patient and meticulous. Since 1990, Fabrice Bertemès has led the estate, dedicating all his energy to expressing the unique character of these exceptional terroirs.
The estate’s 4 hectares of vineyards are located in Trépail and Avenay Val d’Or, both classified as Premier Cru, as well as a few parcels in Mailly Grand Cru. While the Montagne de Reims is renowned for Pinot Noir, Trépail stands out for being almost entirely planted with Chardonnay, a rarity that gives the estate’s wines a distinctive freshness and elegance. A small proportion of Pinot Noir from Mailly Grand Cru adds complexity and structure to the blends.
Fabrice Bertemès is both the vine grower and winemaker, overseeing every stage from cultivation to the direct marketing of his Champagnes. The house favors natural and traditional vinification: grapes are pressed at the estate, and the wines age from 3 to 7 years in the cellars, with minimal dosage to preserve aromatic complexity. Some cuvées benefit from barrel aging, such as “Le Champ de 8 Jours,” which is aged in oak for two months. Malolactic fermentation is avoided to maintain the freshness of the Chardonnay.
Sustainability is a core value at Champagne Fabrice Bertemès. The estate is in the process of HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) conversion, practices grassing to limit soil erosion, works the soil to promote microbial life, and uses essential oils in addition to conventional treatments. The house also maintains a solera for reserve wines, further enriching the complexity of its blends.
Each bottle from Champagne Fabrice Bertemès is a reflection of a passionate, patient, and meticulous work that gives an inimitable typicity to the wines, appreciated on all occasions.
