Château Penin is a historic family estate located in Génissac, at the heart of the Bordeaux vineyards between the Dordogne and Garonne rivers. Founded in 1855 by Louis Carteyron and his son Jacques, the domaine has remained in the Carteyron family for five generations. Under the guidance of Patrick Carteyron, the estate has evolved from mixed fruit and vine cultivation to focus entirely on high-quality viticulture, expanding from 15 to 50 hectares of grouped parcels over the years.
The estate’s vineyards are spread across a mosaic of terroirs, deep gravels, clay-limestone, sandy-clay, and pebble-rich soils, each carefully matched to grape varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Sauvignon Gris. This diversity allows for a broad and expressive range of wines, including red, white, rosé, and clairet.
Château Penin is recognized for its commitment to sustainable viticulture, holding the High Environmental Value (HVE3) certification. Vineyard management emphasizes respect for soil, water, air, and biodiversity, with practices such as cover cropping, mulching, and minimal intervention. The estate also participates in reforestation initiatives, planting trees annually to enhance local biodiversity.
In the cellar, each plot is harvested and vinified separately to preserve its unique character. Winemaking combines modern technology with traditional methods, favoring finesse and balance over extraction. Some cuvées are even crafted without added sulfites, highlighting purity and freshness.
Château Penin’s wines are celebrated for their vibrant fruit, silky tannins, and authentic expression of Bordeaux terroir, offering immediate pleasure and lasting quality in every bottle.
