Château Anthonic is a pioneering family estate in Moulis-en-Médoc, Bordeaux, renowned for its deep commitment to organic viticulture and agroforestry. Led by Jean-Baptiste Cordonnier and his son Théophile, the estate’s philosophy is rooted in a “bio-logical” dynamic, a holistic approach that goes beyond organic certification to embrace the logic of biology and the interconnectedness of all living things.
The estate’s transformation began in the 1990s, when Jean-Baptiste, inspired by a lifelong passion for nature, started shifting away from chemical treatments and reintroducing natural practices. Official organic conversion began in 2016, and Château Anthonic has been certified organic since the 2019 vintage. The estate now extends over 32.5 hectares, with 28 hectares under vine and the remainder dedicated to woodland and meadows, creating a mosaic of habitats that foster biodiversity.
A hallmark of Anthonic’s approach is agroforestry: the integration of trees, hedgerows, and wildlife corridors within the vineyards. More than four kilometers of hedges and 20 hectares of woodland and meadows have been established, supporting a rich ecosystem of birds, bats, insects, and native flora. This regenerative model improves soil health, increases resilience to climate extremes, and enhances the expression of terroir in the wines.
The vineyard is planted primarily with Merlot, alongside Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, thriving on clay-limestone and sandy-clay soils. Each parcel is harvested and vinified separately, with a focus on precision and minimal intervention.
Château Anthonic’s wines are celebrated for their purity, freshness, and balance, a direct result of the estate’s dedication to organic farming, biodiversity, and respect for the land
